To call Ms. Tina Knowles a Black beauty culture participant is an understatement, not only has she birthed 2 living icons and designed clothing, she also worked as a cosmetologist and salon owner for years. To add more to her phenomenality, Ms. Tina is also a lifelong Juneteenth celebrator who has contributed to the culture by sharing her story. Galveston, Texas is not only Ms. Tina’s hometown, it is also the home of the first annual celebration of Juneteenth in 1866 and a city in the first state to recognize Juneteenth as a holiday in 1979. This year Ms. Tina partnered with Facebook to share her story of growing up celebrating Juneteenth and its significance to date.
Well worth the watch, the terse video displays Ms. Tina’s knowledge and appreciation for the culture which gives credence and insight to how she raised two culturally conscious daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, who share their cultural appreciation and contributions through art. While many people already love Ms. Tina, she certainly gives us more to love and appreciate as this multi-hyphenate beauty culturalist enriches Black culture and American culture by sharing her Juneteenth celebration narrative.
